Confirmed chartered as "Alexandria No. 22" on 04/28/1788. New charter issued to "Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22" on 12/12/1804.
1788 Proceedings: Upon application of the Brethren of the Alexandria Lodge of Free Masons 39, under the authority of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, praying to be incorporated under the Grand Lodge of their own State, alleging as a reason their inconvenience to the city of Philadelphia, and signifying their resolution of giving up their now charter to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania aforesaid, it is Resolved, That a charter be granted to the Brethren aforesaid under the name of the Alexandria Lodge, No. 22.
1789 Proceedings: After taking into consideration the request of the Alexandria Lodge, No. 22, contained in their letter addressed to the Grand Lodge, “praying that their old charter maybe returned to them,” the Grand Lodge are of opinion that it is improper to comply therewith.
1804 Proceedings: A petition was presented by the Rev. Thomas Davis, in behalf of the Alexandria Lodge, No. 22, praying that the said Lodge may hereafter be stiled and denominated the Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, on which,
Resolved, That the prayer of the said petition be granted, and that on proper application, and depositing their old charter among the archives of the Grand Lodge, a new charter be issued to them, by the name of the Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, appointing George Deneale, Master; John Roberts, Senior Warden; and Charles Page, Junior Warden; and that the fee of ten pounds be not required therefor.
1805 Proceedings: Whereas at the last Grand Annual Communication, a request was made by the Alexandria Lodge, No. 22, for permission to change the name of the said Lodge to that of the Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, which request was acceded to, and a new charter ordered to be issued; and whereas this order did not meet the wishes of the brethren of the said Lodge, who having had our illustrious brother, General George Washington, for their first Master, whose name is inserted as such in their original charter, they then were and still are desirous of preserving their said charter, as an honorable testimony of his regard, and only wish to be permitted by the Grand Lodge, to assume the name of the Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, without changing their said charter; therefore,
Resolved, That the said Lodge be permitted to assume the said name, and thatit be henceforth denominated the Alexandria Washington Lodge, No. 22, and that an authenticated copy of this resolution be attached to their said charter.
