Notes
When did it go inactive? One of the nine charter Lodges of the Grand Lodge of Virginia in 1788. Original name was "Port Royal Kilwinning Cross" chartered on 12/01/1755. Do we need a separate entry? Current charter is 12/03/1796, replaced with 1755. I think the earliest charter date should stand. Assigned to District 6 in 1820. Assigned to District 12 in 1850. 1848 Proceedings: Listed as suspended. 1850 Proceedings: Resolved, That the Dispensation to Kilwinning Cross Lodge, No. 2, be continued in force till the next Grand Annual Communication. 1854 Proceedings: No mention of the Lodge since 1850, presumed to be declared extinct. Atlantic Lodge No. 2 was issued their number at this time. Editor: Accepting 1848 as the last active year for now. In 1855 the Lodge was revived, missing the chance to reclaim the number 2. 1855 Proceedings: Whereas, a Dispensation was issued by the Most Wor. Grand Master to authorize the opening of a Lodge in the town of Port Royal, in the county of Caroline, by the name of Kilwinning Cross Lodge, No., appointing Wor. Charles Urquhart as Master; Philip Marshall as Senior Warden, and P. H. Pendleton as Junior Warden; and said Dispensation being returned, with the necessary documents: Resolved, That a Charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge by the name, title and designation of Kilwinning Cross Lodge, No. 2, and appointing the officers named. Your Committee beg leave, in connection with this subject, to recommend the adoption of the following: Resolved, Should it not conflict with the regulations and usages of the Grand Lodge, that the blank in the foregoing resolution be filled with the number 2. 1862 Proceedings: Listed as suspended. 1865 Proceedings: Listed as extinct. 1866 Proceedings: Listed as extinct.
