Confirmed chartered 12/11/1872.
Whereas, a Dispensation, bearing date the 16th day of May, A. D. 1872, was issued by the Most Worshipful Grand Master for the opening of a Lodge at Chatham Hill, Smyth county, by the designation of Rich Valley Lodge, and appointing Brother K. C. Stevens, Master; John Goodment, Senior Warden; and D. F. Davis, Junior Warden; and the Dispensation, and all other necessary documents, having been returned:
Resolved, That a Charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, under the name and style of Rich Valley Lodge, No. 172, and appointing Brother D. T. Davis, Worshipful Master; R. D. Hufferd, Senior Warden; and A. S. Davis, Junior Warden.
