1788 Proceedings: A dispensation was this day granted by the Most Worshipful, the Grand Master to James Clark, William Bently, Frederick Woodson and others, to hold a Lodge of Free Masons at Scottsville, in the county of Powhattan, by the name of the Scottsville Lodge, No. 20, to continue in force till the 28th day of April next, and no longer.
Confirmed Chartered 04/28/1788.
1797 Proceedings: The clerk read the letter from the Scottsville Lodge, No. 20, which was referred to this committee by the Grand Lodge, and after duly considering the same, the committee came to the following resolution: Resolved, (as the opinion of this committee), That the said letter be recorded in the proceedings of the Grand Lodge, and that Scottsville Lodge, No. 20, immediately suspend their workings, and send forward their charter to the Grand Secretary.
The Grand Lodge having taken under consideration that part of the report of the committee which respects the letter received from the Scottville Lodge, No. 20, the following resolutions were proposed and adopted in lieu of it, viz:
Resolved, That the Grand Lodge approve the resolutions entered into by the Scottville Lodge, No. 20, and of the various measures they have adopted, as set forth in their letter.
Resolved, That the said letter be published in the proceedings of the Grand Lodge.
Resolved, That the Scottville Lodge be permitted to suspend their workings until they find it convenient to resume them; that
the present Master do keep possession of the charter until further orders, and that he be directed to make report to the next Grand Communication of the then situation of his Lodge.
Resolved, That the above resolutions continue in force until the
next Grand Communication.
