Confirmed Chartered as "Solomon No. 30" on 10/29/1790. Confirmed revived on 12/16/1812. Assigned to District 1 in 1820. Assigned to District 6 in 1850. Assigned to District 1 in 1859. Editor: There is a Solomon No. 34 in the records from 1856 - 1873 but I think the editor confused both Bowlesville No. 34 and Suffolk No. 30, which was originally Solomon No. 30.
1790 Proceedings: Resolved, That a Charter be granted Brothers Step. C. Grayham, J. ITodges, Benj. Bartlett and others, inhabitants in and near the town of Suffolk and county of Nansemond, to hold a Lodge in the said town of Suffolk, under the designation of the Solomon Lodge, No. 30; and the Grand Secretary is hereby directed to provide and deliver the same.
1812 Proceedings: It being made a question what sum would be received by the Grand Lodge in discharge of all arrearages due by Solomon’s Lodge, No. 30, on motion,
Resolved, That on the payment of forty dollars, in discharge of arrearages, Solomon’s Lodge, No. 30, be permitted to recommence
its labors, and that, in order to carry into effect the recommencement, a renewal of their old charter be granted, and that Brother
Matthias Jones be therein appointed Master; James Riddick, Senior Warden; and Arthur Smith, Junior Warden.
1828 Proceedings: Listed as dormant.
1835 Proceedings: Resolved, That Solomon Lodge, No. 30, which has been dormant for several years, be permitted to elect their officers, and revive their labors, by paying to this Grand Lodge the sum of $10.
Resolved, That the name of said Lodge be changed to that of "Suffolk, No. 30", and be attached to District No. 1.
1859 Proceedings: Resolved, That Lodges No. 25, 30, 99, 149 and 151, be taken from District No. 6, and added to District No. 1.
Editor: This established a new Lodge, Solomon No. 30, including members of the existing Suffolk No. 30.
1865 Proceedings: Whereas, an imperfect application was made in July last, by sundry brethren in Suffolk, Nansemond Co., asking for a Dispensation to hold a Lodge, their charter as Suffolk Lodge, No. 30, having been destroyed during the war, and renewed application being now made through M. W. John R. Purdie:
Be it Resolved, That their charter be renewed under the name and title of Solomon Lodge, No. 30, and that P. D. Prentis be appointed Master, F. B. Holliday, Senior Warden, and Wm. B. Wellons, Junior Warden.
1866 Proceedings: Your committee have maturely considered the case of Suffolk Lodge, No. 30, and Solomon Lodge, No. 30, and have come to the conclusion that the ends of justice and the restoration of harmony and of fraternal relations between the brethren of those respective Lodges, are more likely to be attained by a spirit of conciliation and of mutual concession, without attempting to enter into a discussion of the matters of difference between said Lodges, beg leave to recommend the adoption of the following resolutions:
1. Resolved, That Suffolk Lodge, No. 30, of which Wor. Bro. H. R. Culley is Master, be recognized and continued under its present revised Charter as Suffolk Lodge, No. 30, with its present officers and membership, not including those who claim to be members of Solomon Lodge, heretofore known as No. 30.
2. Resolved, That the Lodge heretofore known and designated as Solomon Lodge, of which Wor. Bro. Peter B. Prentis is Master, with its present officers and members, be hereafter designated as Solomon Lodge, No. ---, and that a new Charter do issue to them in conformity therewith, with no additional charge, save the engrossing fee to the Grand Secretary for issuing the same.
3. Resolved, That Suffolk Lodge, No. 30, do retain as members those brethren who now recognize it as their Lodge; and that Solomon Lodge, No. ---, retain as members those brethren who now recognize it as their Lodge; and that the members of each be discharged from the payment of any dues to the other Lodge accruing since the 1st day of January, 1862.
