Confirmed chartered 12/10/1806 as "Culpeper Washington Lodge, No. 78". Not sure when the Lodge was renamed.
1806 Proceedings: Whereas a dispensation was issued by the Most Worshipful Grand Master, dated April 17th, 1806, authorizing William Ward, as Master; Ralls Calvert, as Senior Warden; and John Strother, junior, as Junior Warden; to open a Lodge in the town of Washington, in the county of Culpeper, by the name of the Culpeper Washington Lodge, and the said dispensation being returned, with a copy of the proceedings had thereunder, and a petition for a charter,
Resolved, That a charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, by the name of the Culpeper Washington
Lodge, No. 78, appointing the same brethren officers thereof who are named in the said dispensation.
1815 Proceedings: Whereas it hath been represented that the Culpeper Washington Lodge, No. 78, hath ceased to work for the space of three years, and that the charter, jewels, records and other appurtenances of the said Lodge, are not placed in proper safe keeping; therefore,
Resolved, That Brother John Strother be and he is hereby authorized and required forthwith, to take into his possession, and
forward to the Grand Secretary, the charter, jewels and records of said Lodge No. 78.
1817 Proceedings: The charter, jewels and floor cloths of Lodge No. 78, were received by the Grand Lodge, through the attention and agency of Brother John Strother, who at a former Grand Annual Communication, was appointed to enquire after all the tools and effects of said Lodge.
1819 Proceedings: Resolved, That the District Deputy Grand Master, in the district, in which Lodge No. 78 (Washington), was held, be and he is hereby desired to deliver to Falmouth Lodge, No. 106, on loan, reclaimable by order of this Grand Lodge, the floor-cloths and pillars, belonging to the said Lodge No. 78, which is now dormant.
In 1833, Rappahannock County was created from part of Culpeper County and the town of Washington was selected to be the county seat.
